Nairobi is set to host the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) Zone 5 Qualifiers from November 9th to 15th, marking a thrilling week of fierce competition, unrelenting passion, and the return of top women’s basketball to Kenyan soil.

Who is in the Arena?

East Africa’s finest clubs are suiting up for glory, with their eyes set on the ultimate prize: a coveted spot in the WBLA Finals.

Representing the regions:

Kenya: KPA Dockers, Zetech Sparks

Rwanda: REG WBBC, APR BBC

Tanzania: Fox Divas

Burundi: Les Hippos, Gladiators

Uganda: Magic Stormers

What is WBLA?

The Women’s Basketball League Africa, under the banner of FIBA Africa, is a celebration of elite female athletes. WBLA showcases the power, skill, and spirit of women’s basketball across the African continent, amplifying its reach and impact with every game.

The national champions of each country participate in zonal qualifier tournaments by zone. From each zone tournament, the top-performing teams advance to the Final Round of the WBLA.

Qualifying for the Final Round through these qualifiers paves the way for a chance to win the title, currently held by Ferroviaro de Maputo of Mozambique.

All Eyes on the Stars

All eyes will be on Kenya’s seasoned powerhouse, KPA Dockers, renowned for their tactical mastery and championship pedigree. Meanwhile, Zetech Sparks bring youthful energy and a lightning-fast tempo that’s hard to contain. Rwanda’s REG WBBC and APR BBC arrive with serious firepower and experience, while Uganda’s Magic Stormers and Fox Divas are ready to shake things up with their trademark intensity.

Why it Matters:

The return of the WBLA Zone 5 Qualifiers to Kenya marks more than just a sporting event — it’s a powerful statement about the growth and recognition of women’s basketball in the region. For the first time in over a decade, Nairobi will host elite clubs from across East and Central Africa, offering local fans a front-row seat to continental talent and ambition. Beyond the scores and highlights, this tournament represents opportunity — for young girls dreaming of playing professionally, for coaches investing in the women’s game, and for Africa’s growing community of basketball enthusiasts who believe in the power of sport to unite and inspire.
